On May 13th, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenburg reported Bayern Munich have held ‘first talks’ to sign Liverpool star Sadio Mané this summer.

A day later, Bild backed up these claims by stating the Bavarian club ‘want’ the forward and have registered their interest with his agent.

Kicker have become the latest outlet to report the Bundesliga winners’ interest in the Liverpool player.

After dismissing reports of Bayern wanting Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé, they state the Senegal international is ‘firmly in sight’ of Julian Nagelsmann’s side. Mané’s deal with the Reds runs down in 2023, and there’ll be doubts as long as there’s no extension.

The former Southampton man can be used across various attacking positions. Therefore, the German club’s leaders have Mane ‘in mind’ for next season.

Kicker explain Mané’s potential signing would have no bearing on whether or not Robert Lewandowski stays at the Allianz Arena. The Pole’s contract also expires in 2023 and Barca are keen to sign the striker in the summer.

With multiple outlets in Germany talking about the interest of Nagelsmann’s side in the Liverpool attacker, Bayern president Herbert Hainer was specifically quizzed about these claims.

“I can’t say anything about names. We’re looking all over the market, doing everything we can to put an internationally competitive team on the pitch,” Hainer told TZ.

“One thing is very clear: maximum sporting success is our goal. Of course, we want to be German champions again next season. And again, the season after next. And we want to play for victory in the Champions League again.”
