A doubt ahead of the Champions League final against Real Madrid, Thiago Alcantara ended up starting the game for Liverpool.

In fact, he played a whole 77 minutes of the 1-0 defeat, but was unable to help his club lift the trophy, defeated by a Vinicius Jr. goal.

Battling with injuries throughout the season, the Spaniard remained an integral part of Liverpool’s season under Jürgen Klopp, scoring two goals and assisting another five in 39 appearances for Liverpool, which is why he was picked by Luis Enrique for the upcoming games for his country.

However, as revealed by Cadena COPE, the player has since dropped out of the national team ahead of the game against Portugal, but will only leave the squad after the fixture.

This is due to a muscular lesion in the back of his right leg, and Luis Enrique will not be calling anyone up to replace the Liverpool midfielder.

Sport add he will miss the four games of the Nations League, with Spain set to face Portugal, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and the Czech Republic once more over the next 12 days.
