Liverpool have ‘knocked on the door’ for Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos as the Spain star moves closer to an exit from the Bernabeu.

That’s the incredible claim from El Chiringuito journalist Cristóbal Soria today, who says Liverpool have joined a host of European giants looking to secure his signature.

Ramos is in the middle of contract renewal negotiations with Real Madrid as his current deal expires in the summer.

The two parties are believed to be far apart on that front at this moment in time and, as is usually the case when Ramos is renewing, he is now being linked with several big sides in Europe.

Earlier this week it was claimed that PSG were set to make a move, while Manchester City have also apparently shown an interest.

Soria says Liverpool have now joined the list, having recently ‘knocked on the door’ for the player as they look for a new centre back to bolster their squad.

He makes no mention of whether they’ve been in touch with the player, Real Madrid or anything of that nature, just that they’ve shown interest in a move.

The rumour is a dubious one at best, though. While Liverpool do desperately need a centre back, the chances of them signing Ramos are slim.

First and foremost they don’t have the money to satisfy his massive wage demands, while it’s also debatable whether they’d be interested in signing a player who is still hated by the fanbase following the incident with Mohamed Salah in the 2018 Champions League final.

This is more just El Chiringuito ramping up speculation, with the show having hosted something of a domestic argument between it’s presenters over the Ramos situation over the last week.

Throwing Liverpool into the mix only helps to stir the pot, and a quick look at the discussion on the show demonstrates that fact.

Still, if you happen to see this rumour when it inevitably appears at some point, you know where it comes from and how it should be treated.
