Needing to strengthen defence after Joel Matip joined Virgl van Dijk and Joe Gomez in the list of long-term absentees, Liverpool signed Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak in the winter market.

Despite making two new additions, the Reds continue to be linked with centre-backs for the summer.

Various names are mentioned as targets for the Merseyside club, and among them is Real Betis’ Aïssa Mandi.

Earlier this week, La Razón explained the Algeria international can be a ‘very attractive option’ for Jürgen Klopp’s side since his contract with Betis expires at the end of this season.

Reports in England have also mentioned the Premier League winners’ interest in the La Liga defender.

The claims of Liverpool showing interest in the player have reached his country, and Le Buteur provide their own information on Mandi’s case.

It’s claimed the Anfield club wanted to sign the 29-year-old last summer, but weren’t ready to meet the €18m fee demanded by Real Betis.

According to Le Buteur, a move to the Premier League is the ‘preferred’ option for Mandi after this campaign.

This would come as an advantage for Liverpool in their efforts to sign him on a free transfer in the next market. Whether or not Klopp’s side will take that step remains to be seen.

Of course, given the player’s contract situation, Liverpool don’t have to wait to initiate any signing plan as talks can begin immediately.
