Two days ago, La Dernière Heure stated Roméo Lavia is a priority target for Jürgen Klopp. It was also reported the doors are open for the Southampton star to make a switch to Liverpool.

On Tuesday, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported the Reds tabled a €35m bid but it wasn’t enough to convince the Saints. Later that day, he again took to Twitter to provide a new update on this case.

According to Tavolieri, talks between Southampton and Liverpool ‘are on’ and will continue throughout this week.

The Championship side signed the 19-year-old from Manchester City last summer and the latter have a buyback option set at £40m, valid from 2024. The journalist says the Saints want at least this figure, as a fixed fee, to let go of the midfielder.

Should Southampton sell the Belgium international for £40m, they would consider it ‘good business’.

The reporter explains that sources involved in the deal feel ‘reasonably confident’ of Lavia ending up at Liverpool. He further adds an improved bid is expected from Klopp’s side.

The player has a five-year deal ready at Liverpool.
