Fiorentina are currently trying to sell their star striker Dusan Vlahovic to any club apart from Juventus.

La Viola accept the Serbian wants to leave, he won’t sign a renewal, and they’re trying to get the best deal for themselves, whilst avoiding a sale to Juve at the same time.

Transfer relations between the two clubs aren’t great, with a lot of bad feeling still dating back to Roberto Baggio’s switch to Juventus in 1990. He moved for a world record fee, but fans protested and there were even reports of riots in Florence.

Federico Chiesa’s 2020 move, again from Fiorentina to Juve, didn’t cause the same level of backlash, but there was still a level of anger, especially after the Turin side managed to structure the purchase over a two year loan with a buying obligation.

Italian journalist Niccolò Ceccarini has explained things could have been very different, with La Viola wanting to sell the player to Liverpool instead.

Viola News quote him as saying: “Chiesa? I’ll tell you a background: Fiorentina had reached an agreement with Liverpool for €70m, but the negotiations did not go through due to the boy’s desire to go to Juventus. And so there was the famous two-year loan.”

Chiesa has been repeatedly linked with a Premier League move since, although it’s unlikely Liverpool would be prepared to reach such figures in the near future, with Jurgen Klopp’s side not desperately needing a player of his type.
