Liverpool have raised their offer for Torino defender Perr Schuurs above €30m but are yet to hit the €40m asking price the Italian side have set.
That´s according to Tuttosport, who say Jurgen Klopp and co are keen to get the Dutchman and are raising their efforts to make it happen.
They explain that after an initial €30m proposal was sent to Italy last week, the Reds have now ´raised the bar´ above that price including bonuses.
However, they are ´not yet close´ to the €40m requested by Torino chairman Urbano Cairo, so a deal is not close to being done despite the fact ´a forward step has been taken´.
Schuurs also has interest from Crystal Palace and West Ham but he ´would prefer´ to play at Anfield and is hoping an agreement can be struck.
That latter part was in relation to the latest bid from Liverpool, who, through Klopp, ´wanted the defender already last summer´ and have returned this month.
They are ´insisting with his managers´ that they end negotiations ´as soon as possible´ and the belief is that Schuurs is ´getting ever closer´ to a transfer to England as a result.
The feeling is that Liverpool have the economic resources to meet Torino´s demands and if their €40m asking price is met, it would give them funds to reinvest in the squad and move on.
For the time being a deal has not been struck and Schuurs is with his teammates doing preseason training in Philadelphia.
It is clear, though, that his head has been turned by Liverpool and sooner or later he will have to make a ´definitive decision´ about his future, with ´decisive changes´ perhaps coming this week.
