Towards the end of last season, several claims in the Italian media talked about Liverpool challenging Juventus to sign Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners this summer.
Friday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport mentions Liverpool interest when providing the latest on the 26-year-old.
Juventus technical director Cristiano Giuntoli is working to find an agreement with their Serie A counterpart.
The Old Lady have moved in early with the midfielder, who has already said yes to signing for the Turin club in a deal worth €4m plus bonuses. He’s waiting for an update from Turin.
His displays for Atalanta last season have caught the attention of clubs in England, where the Reds are ‘in pole position’. In fact, Liverpool are the only club mentioned in the report, but they haven’t made an acceptable offer.
Atalanta prefer to sell the Netherlands international abroad, where Liverpool are keen to sign him. They are now waiting to receive offers.
At the same time, La Dea will also have to take the player’s wishes into account, more so if their €60m request is not matched by the interested parties.
This is deemed too high by the Turin club, who are looking to close the deal for €40m, and this money has to be raised by selling one or more Juve players.
This would provide Arne Slot’s time to try and make an attempt to sign Koopmeiners, as long as they come close to Atalanta’s request and convince the player to join them over Juve.
