Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté is in the France squad to face Azerbaijan and Iceland in World Cup qualifiers this month.

The centre-back picked up an injury in the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday. He started alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool’s defence and was replaced in the 56th minute.

After the match, Arne Slot confirmed the 26-year-old had to come off due to an injury.

Didier Deschamps and Les Bleus could be sweating over Konaté’s injury and L’Equipe now provide the latest.

Kylian Mbappé also suffered an injury while in action with Real Madrid at the weekend. The national team will have to manage the forward and the defender’s injury situations.

Real Madrid would have preferred for the attacker to stay in Spain, but that won’t happen. Mbappé and the rest of the France players will arrive at Clairefontaine [France’s camp] on Monday. The report says France’s medical team will handle his case.

The situation is similar for the Liverpool player, who is ‘suffering from a quadriceps injury.’ The national team’s staff will analyse his situation upon his arrival at Clairefontaine.

L’Equipe report there’ll be an update on Konaté’s fitness in the coming hours.
