Liverpool star Luis Diaz is now on top of Barcelona’s wish list, according to reports from the Catalan media.
Even though recent stories had been claiming that the Camp Nou side are focusing on signing Nico Williams, outlet Sport now shows up with an update.
It’s claimed that the Athletic Club Bilbao player was actually the main target for Xavi. With the coach’s departure, Barcelona director Deco has Diaz as the ‘number one’, with a boost given he knows his ‘perfectly well’.
Sport writes that the club chief has been following the winger since he played for Porto, before he joined Liverpool, knowing there’s this ‘deep connection’ with him being a Barça fan.
The outlet points out that Diaz’s season for the Reds was ‘not that spectacular’, but that doesn’t change Deco’s plans, as he’s believed to be a ‘decisive’ player.
The arrival of Arne Slot at Liverpool is also seen as a potential reason for him to leave, plus the Reds are reportedly trying to get their money back, after spending more than €50m on the signing.
Barcelona, however, continue to be in financial struggles, and would need a big exit to pay for that transfer.
