PSV Eindhoven have identified Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg as a target to replace André Ramalho in the summer window.
That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, relayed by FCUpdate, who say Van den Berg is a ‘very interesting option’ for the Dutch champions.
The centre-back has attracted interest from several clubs after impressing on loan at 1. FSV Mainz 05 last season, and these clubs have already made contact with Liverpool.
It’s claimed Liverpool would need at least €20m to part ways with the defender and this is too high for PSV.
The Eredivisie winners’ interest in the 22-year-old isn’t new. The two parties held talks in the past, but PSV weren’t able to get the deal over the line due to various reasons.
PSV technical director Earnest Stewart reportedly prefers Dutch-speaking players who could be of value, both sporting and financially for his side, and Van den Berg is seen as a perfect fit as he ‘meets all the conditions’.
Liverpool’s €20m request would be a concern for the Eindhoven club, but that shouldn’t rule out a transfer.
Last summer, Jerdy Schouten left Bologna for PSV. The 27-year-old had received interest from other clubs, but he and his agent, Frank Schouten, only wanted to join the Dutch club. This helped PSV to bring the price down.
The report states PSV plan to repeat the Schouten deal to try and secure sign Van den Berg’s services. Schouten also represents the Liverpool defender, and this could possibly help PSV this summer.
