After scoring two late goals in Liverpool’s comeback against Newcastle United at the weekend, Darwin Nunez clearly became the Reds’ weekend hero.
The striker has been used by Jurgen Klopp as a late substitute in all of their games this season, and with little time on the pitch, he currently averages a goal every 21 minutes.
It turns out Nunez is happy with his situation, and he talked about it in an interview with Uruguay’s Sport 890.
Following the weekend’s success, he had a word with them about his time at Liverpool and gave some details of his motivation when used as a late substitute.
“The minutes I get to play I always try to give my best. When it’s my turn to be on the bench, I go in angry in a good way because I always want to prove myself,” Darwin Nunez told Sport 890.
“The hug with Klopp after the match shows what a good relationship there is. I’m very happy for my moment. I always prepare myself in the best way for when it’s my turn.”
Since being signed from Benfica in a €80m deal last summer, Nunez holds a record of 17 goals and four assists in 45 appearances for the Reds.
The victory against Newcastle was Liverpool’s second win in three games this season. Prior to the international break, they now face Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at Anfield at the weekend, and if on the bench, Nunez will be ready to help the team with his anger once again.
