On Tuesday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Liverpool have already expressed their desire to sign Juventus target Teun Koopmeiners.
Sport Mediaset state Juventus have to be wary of competition from England, but don’t mention the Reds or any other Premier League side in the report.
This is relayed by Tutto Juve, who then state several English clubs are in the picture, with Liverpool ‘being particularly interested’ in the Atalanta star.
The midfielder could decide to make a switch to England, an aspect the Old Lady cannot overlook.
Juve technical director Cristiano Giuntoli has long been an admirer and even wanted the 26-year-old at Napoli. The Turin club are willing to make a significant financial effort to secure the Dutchman’s services.
Atalanta value their star at €50-60m and aren’t willing to offer discounts to anyone. This, coupled with Liverpool’s ‘growing interest’ in recent weeks will make it complicated for the Turin club to secure the player’s services.
It’s claimed Juventus can only meet La Dea’s request by selling some of their players like Matias Soulé, Samuel Iling-Junior and Weston McKennie. They could even include Soulé as part of a deal for Koopmeiners.
Liverpool, on the other hand, can match Atalanta’s demand and also offer a ‘rich contract’ to the player.
It seems Juve’s strategy will only work if they raise funds through sales, and if not, they could see the Reds take the lead in the race for the Dutchman.
