Liverpool are considering whether to make a move for Schalke defender Ozan Kabak during the January transfer window.
That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says the Reds are ‘considering whether to sink the blow’ and secure his signature.
As you’ll be aware by now, Liverpool have something of a defensive crisis on their hands after Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both suffered long-term injuries this season.
They desperately need a new centre back if Jürgen Klopp is to avoid having to use youngsters or Fabinho in the role for the remainder of the season and Kabak is one of those linked with a move.
He was regularly named as a potential target during the summer transfer window, and those rumours have not died down since.
Indeed, Schalke’s perilous financial situation has made a move all the more likely, with it recently reported in Germany that they had put the player in the shop window and were looking for €25m for him.
It seems that’s piqued Liverpool’s interest, with Falk telling Milan News that they are ‘on Kabak’ and ‘considering’ whether to ‘sink the blow’ and pay up to get him during the January transfer window.
If they do, they’ll undoubtedly find a Schalke side more than happy to do a deal, perhaps for even less than what they’re currently after.
That would suit the Premier League champions down to the ground, with them seemingly assessing their options to plug the massive hole in the middle of their defence.
