Liverpool are interested in Liverpool midfielder Alan Varela, according to the latest reports in the rumour mill.
The information comes from France, where Foot Mercato reveal full list of clubs who are following the Porto star.
The outlet writes that Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain are all interested in Varela, who arrived in European football last summer, when leaving Boca Juniors for the Dragons in an €8m deal.
The report claims that Porto are already aware they’ll be able to make a quick profit with the player, and are now ‘rubbing their hands’ as they wait for the summer offers. It’s said that they demand €70m, the price of his release clause, to let him go.
Liverpool’s interest in Varela comes at a very interesting time, because at the weekend, the Reds were one of the clubs who watched his excellent display in the Dragons’ 5-0 win over Benfica.
It’s also worth pointing out that early on Wednesday, the Portuguese media also revealed Manchester City’s interest in the midfielder. So the Reds better be prepared for a potential battle for this signing.
Varela is still 22 and therefore eligible to play in the Olympics for Argentina this summer, meaning he could arrive at his club late for the season. Perhaps giving him that treat is something Liverpool and others could use to convince him to join them.
