On Monday, we covered claims from Italy explaining that Juventus are ahead of Liverpool in the race for Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners.
The Serie A side are serious and are set to compete with Liverpool to sign the 26-year-old, according to Tuttosport.
Koopmeiners’ agent Bart Baving is in Italy and the Old Lady have started discussions with him. They could offer him a deal until 2028 and increase his basic salary from €2.8m to €4m net per year.
The Netherlands international’s intention is to take the next step in his career by joining a top team in Italy or England. Although Newcastle United and Manchester United showed interest in recent months, it’s Liverpool who are ahead and will now rival the Turin club.
Jürgen Klopp will leave at the end of this season and Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is set to replace him at Anfield. The Dutchman managed the Atalanta player at AZ Alkmaar and could reunite with him at the Merseyside club.
It’s claimed ‘a special feeling’ between the player and Slot could become an obstacle for the Italian club to overcome, also because Liverpool ‘have no problem satisfying’ La Dea and paying the €60-70m fee requested.
This is ‘a lot of money’ and Juve have tried to reduce the fee by including one or more players as part of the deal, which hasn’t convinced Atalanta so far.
In short, Slot and the financial aspect are the two factors that could help Liverpool beat Juve to sign Koopmeiners in the summer window.
