Following reports from the English media claiming that Liverpool sent scouts to watch Gonçalo Inácio playing for Portugal, the Lisbon press now comes up with a response to those rumours.
Newspaper A Bola today shares a short piece claiming Sporting would only like to sell the defender in the summer window.
It’s said that in case Liverpool want Inácio signed in the January market, then there’s ‘only one hypothesis’ for them to succeed, and that’s to pay the €60m of his release clause.
If the Reds want to pay less, then Sporting will ‘accept to talk’ at the end of the season, even though the Portuguese club will still want to negotiate for something close to that price.
The Lions are said to be in no hurry, especially because they know the Euros could end up attracting more ‘admirers’, and consequently push his price up.
At the age of 22, Inácio currently holds four caps for the national team, and is a heavy candidate to be in the squad for the tournament.
Since other clubs are already said to be interested, that may also be a sign for Liverpool to move quickly.
