Liverpool have engaged a serious pursuit for the Sporting youngster Nuno Mendes, according to claims from Portugal today.

The player has recently been linked to Manchester United, and A Bola says Jurgen Klopp’s club have also been following the 17-year-old for a while, and could soon make an attempt for his signing.

Even though it’s not known how much it would take to convince Sporting to sell the left-back, the outlet says there are two options the Premier League side could put on the table.

One is two get Mendes for €15m, leaving a percentage of a future sale to Sporting. The other is to sign him for €20m, and that’s all the Lisbon side would get.

One of the reasons why Liverpool would be in a rush for the signing is to avoid the competition from Manchester United.

The Reds are aware that Mendes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, has a good relationship with the Red Devils due to Bruno Fernandes’ transfer to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.

That’s why the Anfield side could soon make their first attempt to get the player. A Bola says their ideas could be turned into action in the ‘coming days’.
