Following another great season with RC Lens, there was a feeling that Seko Fofana could leave the Ligue 1 club over the summer.

However, despite tepid interest from Paris Saint-Germain, the player stayed put, but that could change if other clubs come along.

We say this because there is now a claim in France that Liverpool are interested in the Ivory Coast international to bolster their midfield.

This comes from French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who took to Twitter to explain that ‘in search of impact in midfield’, the Reds have turned their attention to Fofana.

The 27-year-old continues to be in fine form for the Ligue 1 side, scoring two goals and assisting another two in 12 appearances, as they currently sit second in the table, five points behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Genuardi claims Liverpool are ‘monitoring’ the performances of the midfielder, who is now on their ‘short-list’ going forward.

There’s no mention of any price or whether this would be for January, but it’s clear that Jürgen Klopp could do with a bit more depth in midfield going forward.

Liverpool’s signing of Arthur Melo hasn’t exactly gone to plan, and Fofana, whose injury record is far clearer than the Brazilian’s, could certainly do a lot of good.

However, we doubt Lens will want to sell midway through such a successful campaign to date, so it could take a lot to get them to agree to a January deal.
