Neither Liverpool nor Manchester United have made ‘official offers’ for Lille striker Victor Osimhen, despite claims to the contrary.
Osimhen has been linked with a move to both clubs this summer, although it is Napoli who are currently leading the race for his signature.
They have been locked in negotiations with the player and his club for several weeks and looked to be closing in on a deal this week before the player deciding to change agent led to a stall in negotiations.
That led to reports this week that Liverpool had suddenly emerged as contenders for his signature, with Jürgen Klopp supposedly asking for his signature, a move that put the Reds at the front of the queue.
That has since been dismissed in both Italy and France, although rumours continue to circle that either they or Manchester United could come in.
“Despite the circus manoeuvres of the new agent, Napoli still remains favourite in the race to Osimhen,” he told Napoli Magazine.
“The entourage of the player, to justify the promises made to the Nigerian with the change of power of attorney, is attempting to trigger an auction that at least for now is not there.
“Manchester United and Liverpool have not made official offers to Lille at the moment.
“The English clubs have been contacted directly by the agent and have expressed satisfaction with the player: but it is different from the things that are being said in these hours.
“Napoli will not wait forever, but has a strong agreement with Lille.
“All in full evolution in a deal that is, in any case, going in or out because the patience in the Napoli home is still there, but it cannot be infinite.”
