Liverpool loaned Kostas Tsimikas to AS Roma in the summer.

The Greek international has made five appearances in all competitions so far, playing more often in the Europa League.

when Roma lost 2-1 to Viktoria Plzen on Thursday though, the Liverpool loanee was missing from the starting eleven. Tsimikas didn’t even come off the bench, as Wesley started in an unnatural left wing-back position.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has been asked about his decision. He told reporters the 29-year-old was excluded for technical reasons.

Gasperini said, via Tuttomercatoweb: “It’s a technical choice. Wesley is doing well on the wings, with a lot of energy but maybe he’ll miss a few crosses.”

Gazzetta dello Sport take a closer look at these comments.

They question whether Gasperini trusts the arrival from Liverpool. This is because Tsimikas didn’t feature in Roma’s loss to Inter Milan at the weekend either.

RomaForever note the defender doesn’t have any physical problems.

Gasperini is trying to find the best possible solution at left wing-back. Because of this, he is chopping and changing his selections in that position.

The outlet claim that Tsimikas hasn’t been at his best, but he is the only wing-back in the side to have registered an assist.

This presents a dilemma for the Italian manager, whose system is known to be demanding.
