Liverpool are interested in Parma defender Giovanni Leoni, whose performances for the Italian club are drawing in suitors.

That’s according to Parma Today who, in an exclusive on their website, say that Liverpool have shown an interest in the 18-year-old defender.

They explain that Leoni has been making waves at Parma since joining for €5.5m plus bonuses from Sampdoria last summer. Now he is appreciated everywhere in Italy, with AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli all showing an interest in various degrees.

However, his performances have also impressed Liverpool scouts. According to Parma Today’s information, they have now set their sights on Leoni this summer. They are the English club to have shown the most interest in him in England to date.

They don’t appear to have made any moves for him as yet, but their scouts are interested and there is a distinct possibility that can change.

Parma, for their part, are not interested in selling and their CEO, Federico Cherubini, has been insisting publically that they don’t want to see the youngster depart and think his story is far from completed with them at this point.

Of course, a big bid from Liverpool, Premier League champions, can always change that, particularly with them needing to find a replacement for Jarrel Quansah.
