It feels like Andre Gomes has been close to the Barcelona exit ever since he signed for the club from Valencia.

Linked with several clubs during the summer 2016 transfer window, Real Madrid made a late move to get a deal sewn up and then Barcelona swooped in to beat their rivals. AS believe Gomes cost Barcelona €35m plus bonuses, and at the time the total fee was put at much higher than the initial outlay, although it’s unclear which, if any, bonuses will have been met.

AS report Barcelona have now decided it’s time to part ways with Gomes, although that’s been claimed repeatedly. What seems to have been missing is genuine interest, but the Spanish newspaper claim there’s ‘serious’ intent from Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side certainly aren’t one of the clubs who have been most linked with Gomes and whilst AS make it clear a red carpet would be rolled out this summer for potential purchasers, Liverpool may well have different targets more suitable for them.

Around a week ago Catalan newspaper Sport also covered Barcelona’s thinning patience with the Portuguese midfielder, and explained he’s overly nervous on the pitch.

Gomes ‘limits himself to doing the easiest thing: pass backwards to a teammate’, explained Sport, and it was even stated some Barca teammates were reluctant to pass to him given that he’d slow an attack down.

That really doesn’t sound suitable for Liverpool. So unless Klopp could work miracles with the player’s confidence, this one should probably be swerved.
