Following the news that Julian Ward would leave his role as Liverpool’s sporting director, it seems the Reds are already moving for a replacement.
The news comes from Germany, where Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg claims Sven Mislintat is a ‘candidate’ for the job.
It’s said there are no open negotiations with the 50-year-old for now, but he’s ‘open’ to taking the position in the summer of 2023.
Mislintat worked alongside Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, and the two are said to still have a ‘brilliant’ relationship.
The German official had several jobs off the pitch, as he started working at the Bundesliga side as an analyst in 1998. He was also an assistant coach at VfL Kamen and Westfalia Herne, besides working for the German national team in the 2002 World Cup.
From 2006 on, Mislintat started taking new steps at Borussia Dortmund, first as scout, then as chief scout and finally director of professional football. He left them to work in the Premier League, as he was Arsenal’s head of scouting between 2017 and 2019.
His role as a sporting director was something he got at VfB Stuttgart, who he joined in 2019 and is now leaving.
