Sometimes deadline day moves can work out for the best, often, though, they are a bit of a disaster. That was certainly the case for Extremadura and Pedro Chirivella.
The 22-year-old arrived at the club from Liverpool on loan on deadline day of the January transfer window, and all seemed well.
However, by the 13th February, the move had turned sour. The club announced the midfielder could not feature for them in the second half of the season after his transfer documents had arrived after the deadline.
Both parties were left disappointed, but it was too late to fix the problem. Chirivella returned to Merseyside this summer and, presumably, assessed his options for next season.
Well, according to El Periódico Extremadura, an immediate return to Almendralejo could be on the cards.
According to the newspaper, Extremadura remain keen on Chirivella, despite his failed move in January. His name ‘sounds strongly’.
The Spanish club are looking to bolster their midfield this summer, and they consider Chirivella as a dream signing.
Indeed, according to the report, the club are already negotiating with Liverpool to make it happen. There is no comment, however, on whether this would be on loan or in a permanent switch.
The club are undoubtedly keen, though, and given Chirivella was happy to go there this season it seems unlikely he’d be opposed to the move now.
