Following a summer departure from Liverpool last year, Naby Keïta had a disastrous season at Werder Bremen.
First due to injuries, and then because of a suspension from the Bundesliga side, the midfielder managed to play very little in 2023/24, with just 106 minutes in five appearances.
German newspaper Bild today writes about his situation, pointing out that Werder Bremen now have three options of what to do with him this summer.
The first is finding him a new club. There are doubts about who would be interested in him, though, as top European sides are ruled out, and maybe a Middle East side would be a solution.
The second is the cancellation of contract. When leaving Liverpool, he had agreed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga side, and that could be terminated a lot sooner than expected. The problem is the costs that would be associated with that.
Then there’s the possibility of a ‘pardon’, which was never ruled out, although that would really depend on some talks between Keita, who allegedly went on strike before a game, and the coaching staff.
Either way, it’s all gone wrong for him after his Liverpool exit, and this summer shall be crucial for the rest of his career.
