Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã today highlights Liverpool’s interest in Benfica star João Neves.
It’s said the Reds have set the midfielder as a ‘priority reinforcement’ for the next season, and after watching him many times, they plan to advance in the bid in the ‘coming days’.
The outlet writes that Liverpool know Neves very well, both from their scouting work and from what they heard from his national teammate Diogo Jota.
The Reds, however, aren’t expected to have an easy task trying to sign him, as Benfica are planning to only let him go for the price of his release clause, which stands at €120m.
We should probably just point out that Correio da Manhã have been making some big claims recently, seemingly overcome with transfer fever. Therefore, it’s best to wait for other Portuguese sources to back them up before getting too excited.
Neves has been showing big potential at Benfica, though, and it’d be no shock if Liverpool are interested in him. The Reds wouldn’t be alone in the race, as reports from Portugal say the Manchester clubs are also chasing the 19-year-old this summer.
