RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate is on the list of potential signings for Liverpool, who believe he would be ‘financially affordable’ for the club.
That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who say the Reds’ owners have him on their list of potential targets.
Liverpool are in desperate need of a defensive reinforcement after losing both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk to long-term injuries this season.
It is widely expected that they will look to add to their squad in the January transfer window and several names from around Europe have all been linked.
As a result, a number of clubs are thought to be keen on his signature, and Falk says Liverpool are among them, although he doesn’t mention when they would be looking at making their move.
“Upamecano is at the top of the list of many top clubs and of course that includes Liverpool,” he told BILD.
“Bayern Munich are also an option, but it’s going to be hard to go that way, so they look at other players.
“They do not even look that far, just to the side of Upmecano at his teammate (Konate).
“They (Liverpool) have become aware of the value of his contract, which runs until 2023, and he would be financially affordable for Liverpool.
“He is also very, very interesting in terms of playing style, which is similar, so they could be one of the teams to take him to the island.”
