Liverpool have received an encouragement after Real Madrid drop out of the race to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi.

AS cover the latest on Real Madrid’s decision not to pursue the defender amid Liverpool’s interest.

Last summer, the centre-back came close to joining Liverpool before the move collapsed on deadline day. Guéhi is still at Crystal Palace, where he has a contract until the end of this season.

Oliver Glasner has confirmed the 25-year-old has decided against signing a new contract with the Eagles. His contract situation makes him one of the most sought after players in the market.

Real Madrid had the England international on their list for next summer. They considered the Crystal Palace player as an alternative to Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano. The latter two also have contracts expiring in 2026.

AS reports it’s ‘mission impossible’ for Xabi Alonso’s side to sign Guéhi for free because of his high demands for both salary and signing on bonus. Therefore, they won’t be pursuing him further.

According to the newspaper, Liverpool are the ‘clear favourites’ to sign him.

The England international has played 17 matches for Crystal Palace this season.
