Inter Milan remain keen on signing Liverpool’s Curtis Jones and are trying to make in-roads over a deal.
Last week, Sport Witness covered how the midfielder is not happy with life under Arne Slot. He has been refusing to sign a new deal, with his current contract running out in 2027.
He was close to moving to the Nerazzurri in January but a deal never materialised. Liverpool handed him a renewal offer and this was met with rejection from the player. It was the first sign of his dissatisfaction and this has now only grown in recent weeks.
Even if Slot has handed Jones regular game time since the Inter move fell through, he remains keen on an exit.
Jones seen as first signing of the summer
Tuttomercatoweb note that the ‘hottest name’ to bolster Inter’s midfield. He is also viewed as their potential first signing of the summer.
While that appears ambitious, talks between the Italian champions and Liverpool are already underway. Personal terms are believed to be in place, with Cristian Chivu a big fan of the England international’s profile.
The midfielder has given a ‘green light’ for his exit already, with Frattesi now definitely on his way out.
Liverpool’s demands clear
SportItalia have some information about the 25-year-old.
They feel Jones has given his full approval to Inter. This has given Chivu’s side the encouragement to proceed with a move. They are in ‘constant contact’ with his entourage, who have been informed about the role Jones will play in the project.
The major hold-up is being caused by Liverpool themselves. They demand £35m to sell him, despite knowing that his contract runs out in 2027.
Inter feel this is too much but they aren’t giving up already.
Deal may not suit Jones
As things stand, Inter have Nicolo Barella, Petar Sucic, Andy Diouf, Piotr Zielinski as options in midfield. Henrikh Mkhitaryan could yet stay and Aleksander Stankovic can also return from Club Brugge.
That is the biggest sign that moving to Inter may not be Jones’ best idea. There is a chance he can end up playing more at Liverpool than he does for the Nerazzurri.
There is no obvious spot that he can pick up in the Inter squad either. At this point of his career, he should join a club where he will be the centre of the project.
