On June 28th, Marca reported Liverpool are set to battle it out with Newcastle United to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer.
The Georgia international starred for the La Liga side last season, keeping 13 clean sheets and conceding 41 goals from 37 games. He extended his impressive run at Euro 2024, and this saw the hype rise.
Eddie Howe’s side have given up on the 23-year-old, but apparently the same cannot be said about the Reds.
That’s according to Deportes Cope Valencia, who indicate Liverpool are back in mix for the Los Ches star.
Alisson Becker has been the first-choice goalkeeper since he arrived at Anfield in 2018. His deal lasts until 2027, but there’s been rumours linking the 31-year-old Brazilian with Saudi clubs.
It’s claimed Liverpool are the Premier League pushing the most for the Georgian.
Atlético Madrid are also in the picture, but they will consider Mamardashvili if their first-choice goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, were to leave.
Valencia demanded €35-40m when the Magpies showed interest over a month ago, and it’s not clear whether they will request the same fee for Mamardashvili.
