The front page of Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport is largely a celebration of Nicolò Barella, as are the two pages following it.

Barella excelled for Inter Milan in the Champions League this week, with a great performance as the Serie A side beat Bayern Munich and set themselves up to qualify for the semifinals of UEFA’s elite competition.

That’s seen the midfielder receive an avalanche of praise… and thrown up transfer links, with Liverpool the main club named by Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper states: ‘Wherever you turned, it was all 23. Back-heel and toe, like a dancer who softened his steps and charmed teammates, opponents, fans, everyone.’

When it comes to a transfer, it’s stated Pep Guardiola tried to sign the midfielder for Manchester City, and the Premier League continues to ‘push’ for his arrival.

Of those Premier League clubs, it’s ‘Liverpool above all’, with the Reds presented as being the most interested.

There’s a claim that Barella is now the most valuable Italian footballer and that he can’t be worth less than €100m.

Liverpool may well have some interest but they probably wouldn’t want to go to such financial heights and, regardless, Barella appears quite happy where he is.
