On Tuesday, Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 to RC Lens in the Champions League. The north London club suffered a double blow when Bukayo Saka sustained an injury in the first half and was replaced by Fábio Vieira.
Adrien Thomasson’s 25th minute goal helped the Ligue 1 side cancel Gabriel Jesus’ opener before Elye Wahi scored the winner in the second half.
L’Equipe state Arsenal centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel struggled when they came up against Wahi and they were awarded ratings of 5/10 and 4/10 respectively. Oleksandr Zinchenko started as a left-back and received a rating of 4/10.
Mikel Arteta favoured Takehiro Tomiyasu ahead of Ben White for the right side of the back four and the outlet states he was ‘not at ease’ and was ‘late in duels’ against the French club.
The Japanese defender was rated 3/10 while goalkeeper David Raya got 5/10.
Focusing on Kai Havertz’s display, L’Equipe rated him 4/10 as he had ‘little impact’ in the tie and the same rating was also given to Martin Ødegaard, Vieira and Leandro Trossard.
Jesus and Declan Rice both received 6/10, which is the highest rating given by L’Equipe to Arsenal players.
Arteta’s side are second in the group table and a point behind leaders Lens.
