Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has Kieran Tierney and Marcelo Saracchi as the two left-backs at Celtic Park.
Saracchi moved to Celtic on loan from Boca Juniors in August 2025, without an option or obligation to buy.
Last month, the 27-year-old’s agent, Marcelo Tejera, revealed Celtic have expressed their desire to buy his client. He also confirmed a meeting with them.
At that time, he said: “I have a meeting planned with the general manager of Celtic because they are also looking to buy his contract.”
The representative has also confirmed unnamed clubs from England, Brazil and Mexico showing interest in the Celtic man.
It’s unclear whether he had a meeting with O’Neill’s side regarding the fullback’s future.
Celtic player’s future uncertain
Bolavip cover the latest on Marcelo Saracchi, who has struggled with hamstring problems at Celtic.
Since moving to Glasgow, he already missed 79 days due to injuries, and this has limited his playing time for the Scottish club.
His league stats are as follows:
- Appearances: 15
- Starts: 8
- Total minutes played: 610
- Minutes per game: 41
The Uruguay international has played 872 minutes from 21 matches in all competitions for Celtic so far. The outlet makes it clear it’s their own information and report he won’t be at Celtic Park after this season.
That’s because there’s ‘little chance’ that Martin O’Neill’s side will be interested in starting negotiations with Boca Juniors to extend his stay. The defender has to return to the South American club, after his loan spell with the Bhoys.
Saracchi’s agent seems to be aware of Celtic’s plans and therefore, he is planning to make a trip to Europe. He’s likely to meet his client and then explore options for the summer.
On March 6th, his representative, Marcelo Tejera, confirmed both Nacional de Football and Club Atlético Peñarol showed interest in him in the winter market. However, the transfer didn’t go through because Celtic didn’t cooperate.
Our take: Celtic need new left-back
With Celtic deciding not to extend Marcelo Saracchi’s stay, Kieran Tierney will be the other recognised left-back in the squad. The former Arsenal man played 3,342 minutes from 46 matches this season. However,
However, Tierney had issues with injuries over the years and therefore, Celtic will have to bring in a new left-back, to provide him cover and competition.
