The grandfather of Everton striker Cenk Tosun has shared his anguish at seeing the striker suffer his recent injury.
Tosun is currently on loan at former club Besiktas, whom he joined at the end of the January transfer window after falling out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti.
That deal was set to run until the end of the season but was cut prematurely short on Sunday when he damaged a tendon in his knee during the clash with BB Erzurumspor.
He’s since undergone surgery on the injury in Turkey and is set to miss up to eight months out, with the injury shocking not only Besiktas but leading to questions about the state of the pitches in the country.
We’ve already seen comments from several people close to the Everton man about the injury, and his grandfather has now shared his thoughts about it all.
“When I saw my grandson lying on the ground in pain, it was like a part of me was torn off; I couldn’t hold back my tears,” he told Goal’s Turkish edition.
“I immediately called his mother; they said he was going to have surgery. I talked to Cenk after the surgery.
“He said; ‘Grandfather, they made us move on the stone, not on the grass field,’ he said.
“He is in good condition at the moment; he is very sad that he will be away from his jersey for a long time and will not be able to serve his country at EURO 2020, but he promised to be better than before.”
