Douglas Luiz signed for Aston Villa in the summer 2019 transfer window, and has been a big success with the Birmingham club.

The 23-year-old is now a Brazil international, and there’d probably be more transfer rumours surrounding him if it wasn’t thought Manchester City have a chance to buy him back in the summer window.

Pep Guardiola will have to a make a decision in that regard, and the player will also have a say. Going to Manchester City and disappearing into a squad system may not be the best move for Luiz’s international career.

There are admiring glances from further away, with Gianni Di Marzio, a very experienced Italian coach and now a pundit, believing the Aston Villa man is just the type of signing Napoli should be making in the coming market.

Di Marzio was speaking on Italian TV, with his comments picked up by Napoli Magazine, and is quoted as saying: “The market? On the wings I would take Emerson Palmieri, then we need a playmaker in front of the defence like Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa.”

Whether Napoli could afford a move, or even tempt Douglas Luiz, isn’t a scenario to worry about unless they decide to take Di Marzio’s transfer advice.
