Borussia Dortmund striker Fabio Silva has admitted he doesn’t want to think about his loan spell at Rangers. He played on the wing for the Ibrox club, and it’s fair to say it’s tainted his memory of Russell Martin’s side.
Ruhr Nachrichten have an interview with the striker today as he looks to establish himself at the German club following a summer move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It’s the latest in a long list of transfers for Silva. He’s spent the last five years on various loan deals away from Wolves after a €40m move in 2020.
One such move took him to Rangers. The Portuguese attacker arrived at Ibrox at the beginning of the January transfer window in 2024.
He went on to make 25 appearances in total for Rangers in the second half of that season. Silva played in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League as well as Scottish cup competitions, managing six goals in total.
Most of his time at Ibrox saw him bouncing around positions. There were eight appearances as a centre-forward, seven as a left winger and five as a left midfielder.
“I’ve repressed it” – Rangers wing experience filed far away
It’s not something he appears to look back on fondly. When asked, he admitted he’d prefer not talk about his brief stint on the Rangers wing.
“Wherever the coach sees me and wants me to be (laughs),” he answered where he fits at Dortmund.
“I want to be on the pitch to help the team. I’ve played in many positions in my career. Lone striker, but also behind the striker. For me, the most important thing is that I’m on the pitch. But if you ask me where I feel most comfortable, it’s probably the ‘nine and a half’ position—behind the striker.”
When his Rangers wing adventure was put to him, he said: “Let’s not talk about that, I’ve repressed it (laughs),” he added when the subject of his time at Rangers was brought up.
