Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón is currently enjoying life in England after impressing for the club in the past few weeks.

The winger has scored seven goals in the last seven matches, which includes a goal in each of the last four games. He has taken his overall tally to eight goals from 14 matches this season.

Almirón’s recent form for Newcastle has not surprised his former teammate Dani Güiza. Eddie Howe’s current star came up through the ranks of Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño before he was promoted to their first team in 2013.

During the Paraguay international’s time at Cerro Porteño, he played alongside Güiza, who spent two seasons [between 2013 and 2015] on loan with them.

“I am very proud of Miguel. He made his debut with us in the first team. I already knew that he was going to go far because he is a boy who was committed, worked day by day,” Güiza told VERSUS.

“We shared many chats. Apart from the footballers who slept with us in the room, we chatted with him and tried to give him good advice. He is one of the young people who wanted to learn. It is clear they ask you everything. In life to be able to achieve success, it’s the job and Miguel had it since I met him.”

The Spaniard has revealed he is in contact with the Tyneside club star, who has recently sent a Newcastle shirt to the 42-year-old.

“For Miguel, I feel a lot of pride, satisfaction, because he is a boy who has worked hard… This morning I was talking to him. I did a post on Instagram, I replied that I am very happy that he has succeeded,” he explained.

“He has sent me a Newcastle shirt, I have it signed at home… When a footballer is happy and always wants to learn, he will always improve.

“Hopefully it will be a principle for many boys from the Cerro youth academy, that they see him and know that it can be achieved, with a lot of work and sacrifice, but it can be achieved. Nothing is by chance. If you work, you will go far for sure.”

Meanwhile, Güiza has also given some career advice to his former teammate, which is to not think of leaving Newcastle soon.

“Let him triumph there, he feels loved by the fans and he is very comfortable at the club. Of course, I hope one day he can wear the shirt of my beloved Real Madrid,” Güiza added.
