Despite the summer transfer window in England closing on September 1st, countries like Belgium had a bit more time to wrap up signings, which Standard Liège took full advantage of by bringing back Moussa Djenepo from Southampton.
The deal was a cheap one for the Jupiler Pro League side, who managed to sign the winger permanently for €3.5m on September 5th.
DH on Thursday bring a bit of insight as to how the transfer ended up taking place, and explain everything was done ‘in 72 hours’.
They initially took some information about the feasibility of a deal with Southampton, but didn’t make any concrete move until they were in touch with the agent and found out whether or not the player wanted to leave England.
It’s said that on the Friday, a call was organised between Djenepo, his agent and the Belgian club, where ‘quickly an offer was made to the player, which he liked’.
After the game against RWDM on Saturday, a call is made from Standard Liège to talk with 777 Partners about sending an offer to Southampton.
They give the ‘green light’, meaning the offer was sent on Sunday and accepted on the Monday morning.
That’s when Djenepo took the train to go to Liège, where he signed a few hours later, with everything happening in ‘less than three days’.
