All the players you know about as a fan in the Premier League, the ones you see week in, week out, they’re the ones who have made it.
They tend to be the more talented ones, or they were just around at the right time, given a chance and seizing it with both hands.
However, for a lot of footballers who want to play the game professionally, their path isn’t just academy, reserves and first-team, as shown by Ahmed Abdelkader, who recently had a trial with Leicester City.
The young goalkeeper, who left Guingamp to try his luck elsewhere, was given a chance, according to DZFoot, by the Foxes to impress Claude Puel and co. in hope of convincing them that giving him a contract was the right thing to do.
The website explain this trial went on for several weeks, but, in the end, he didn’t manage to achieve his goal, with the Leicester staff kindly telling him to try his luck elsewhere.
Now, he’ll be playing for ENAD Polis Chrysochous, currently in Cyprus’ third division, where he signed a three-year deal.
It’ll be a stepping stone, but it just shows how quickly things can change when you were so close to signing for a Premier League club.
