We all now that as you get older, you have to be a little bit more careful when it comes to your weight.
And it seems footballers are conscientious of that fact as well. Or, Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel is anyway.
The Dane is one of the first names on the team-sheet at the King Power Stadium, having held the number one jersey for a number of years.
At 32-years-old he’s still young for a goalkeeper, with the retirement age creeping higher for stoppers in the modern era.
Still, the Leicester star knows that if he wants to carry on for as long as possible, he needs to keep his body in check.
And with that is mind, it seems the last six months have been busy, as he revealed he’s lost 10 kilos alone over that period.
“It’s no secret that I’ve lost weight,” he told BT.
“The secret is simple: I’ve gotten a little older and started training differently.
“I am 32 years old, and so it is important to look after my body as much as possible. Right now, my training is more effective than ever before.”
Quite what has caused Schmeichel’s dramatic weight loss this year is a secret he’s not willing to reveal, although it may be safe to assume Brendan Rodgers had something to do with it.
He arrived at Leicester back in February, just a month or so before the time that Schmeichel’s weight loss journey begun.
Either way, Leicester fans will undoubtedly be happy. The longer they can keep the Dane between the sticks, the better their fortunes are likely to be.
