Roma’s interest in Sassuolo’s Grégoire Defrel is nothing new.

Looking for an attacker during the January transfer window, the Serie A side tried their best to sign the 26-year-old, only for them to be told he would be available for €22m, a price they couldn’t afford at the time.

With the summer transfer window now in full swing, and thanks to money from Liverpool for Salah, Roma have returned for Defrel, and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, face competition from Leicester City.

Much like the Serie A side, the Foxes were also linked with the French striker in January, but with an overload of personnel in that position already, that never happened, yet with five players still capable of playing there, the return of the story could suggest one or two of them are going.

After all, back in January, Leonardo Ulloa was desperate to go, and an exit is still likely after he didn’t get his move, while Ahmed Musa, whose first season in the Premier League didn’t go as expected, has already been linked with a move away.

Knowing clubs have a bit more money, Sassuolo have now upped their price to €25m for their star striker, anticipating a battle between Roma and Leicester.

However, Gazzetta explain the fight isn’t exactly a fair one, what with the Foxes’ economical power and all.

If they do decide to pursue him, Leicester definitely will have the upper hand, but all will rest on the player’s desire, and, having never played outside Serie A, he might want to go for the safe option.

More on this to come, no doubt.
