There’s been a few reports over the summer that Leicester City have been thinking about bidding for Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi, but so far, nothing has come of them.
The interest in the player dates back to before his move to Spain, when he was at Stoke, but since joining the La Liga club, the Frenchman has gone up a level, and become a valuable part of their team.
Winning the Europa League last season will undoubtedly be one of the best moments in his career, and now in the Champions League, there’s very little that could convince him to move away.
Leicester’s spot in the elite European competition certainly isn’t something to dismiss, but you’d think it would still be hard to persuade him to leave a club where the exposure for a national team spot is good and one he feels comfortable in.
Then comes the problem of convincing Sevilla to let him go, because, well, they don’t want to.
The player has a €30m release clause in his contract, but that would involve breaking Leicester City’s transfer record, and Calciomercato in Italy say that’s something they don’t particularly want to do at this stage in the transfer window.
Despite Leicester’s owner saying he’d be happy to spend money still if the right player came along, there’s a difference between buying someone else and smashing your transfer record by £9m.
Five days left, let’s see what happens.
