After months of will he won’t he, Islam Slimani finally found himself an exit avenue from the King Power Stadium, as Monaco in Ligue 1 welcomed him with open arms on a loan with a view to buy.

Scoring three goals in his first two league games, the Algeria international has found great early form, and without the extra pressure of Falcao breathing down his neck, with the Colombian moving to Galatasaray, first-team football shouldn’t be a problem this season.

However, his summer could have been very different if Bordeaux’s new manager, Paulo Sousa, had got his way, as L’Equipe claim Slimani was the Portuguese’s ‘priority’ early on.

Unfortunately for the former Leicester man, the Ligue 1 side’s wallet wasn’t deep enough to secure his services, and other targets had to be looked at.

Munas Dabbur, who is going through a very strange first few months at Sevilla, was also on the list, but the same problem was encountered as for Slimani.

For Leicester and the forward, all was well that ended well, but for Bordeaux, who wanted to revamp their squad all summer, questions will be asked considering they spent a whole €7m and pocketed €35m.
