Bought somewhat surprisingly from Gazélec Ajaccio back in 2018, Fousseni Diabaté hasn’t really managed to break through at Leicester City yet.
The 24-year-old has instead spent time away on loan here and there, first going to Sivasspor in Turkey before returning in June and heading back out in September to SC Amiens in France.
The idea was for him to play, score goals and show why Leicester gambled on him, albeit just £1.8m, in the first place, but that’s not what’s happened.
Despite making 19 appearances in the league, the winger has scored just once, and assisted another three, with the goal and one of those passes coming in the 4-4 against Paris Saint-Germain.
In the other games, Amiens have really struggled to score, failing to do so four times in their last six games, with Diabaté starting five of those.
They write: “Just like in his duel lost against Oukidja last week, Fousseni Diabaté has disappointed since his arrival in early September. Despite that, the winger, loaned by Leicester, has managed a series of five starts, punctuated by insipid performances, bar the game against Paris”.
That’s not exactly what Brendan Rodgers and co. will have wanted, nor what the player will have hoped for going into this.
Hopefully he can turn things around in the coming months, or he might struggle to find many good suitors for his services next year, as we doubt this will have convinced the King Power Stadium brass that he deserves another shot in the Premier League.
