Arriving on loan from Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season, Aleksandar Dragovic was seen as something of a coup for Leicester City.
The Austrian defender had been looked at by quite a few European sides, and the opportunity to play in the Premier League was seemingly too good to refuse for the 26-year-old.
Except, the thing is, he hasn’t played in England’s top tier yet, and that is really annoying AS Roma, who wanted to bring him in late on in the transfer window.
Feeling a bit light in defence, the Serie A side were considering making a move for Dragovic, but ended up being pipped to him by the Foxes.
So far, the Leicester City defender has only been picked once by Craig Shakespeare, in a 2-0 EFL Cup win over Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, and that has forced the Italians to move onto another target.
Until that moment, there was still hope he might not feature at all for the Foxes until January, which would have allowed him to move to Rome, having still only played for one club (Leverkusen) that season.
But it simply wasn’t to be, with Leicester unknowingly messing up one of Monchi’s transfer plans.
This means Roma will turn to Rodrigo Caio instead, who isn’t exactly the worst alternative, especially considering he owns an Italian passport, meaning he won’t use up a non-EU slot in their squad.
