Leicester City may have a good chance to sign Mehdi Carcela-González this summer. As Benfica are full of options for the wings, the Portuguese club are preparing to sell the 26-year-old who was linked to the Foxes this year.
Record reports that although Nicolas Gaitán has left the Estádio da Luz to join Atletico Madrid, Benfica think they have too many wingers for the squad, especially after they’ve signed Andre Carrillo and Franco Cervi.
As Carcela was never considered to be untouchable in the squad, the club are now prepared to hear offers for him as they would like to recover the investment made a year ago when they bought him from Standard Liège for €4m.
Carcela had three goals and seven assists in 29 games for Benfica last season. Besides the Leicester interest, the Belgian player is also said to be wanted by PSV and Standard Liège.
Whilst Carcela was seen as potentially an important player for Benfica when he signed, things simply didn’t work out, and maybe Premier League champions Leicester City should be aiming higher.
