Narrowly missing out on the chance of a penalty shootout due to a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic winner, Leicester City lost their first official game of the season against Manchester United in the Community Shield.
The Swede’s 83rd minute header ensured José Mourinho got off to a winning start as the Red Devils’ manager, and Claudio Ranieri will be hoping their first league game ends with a better result.
With four strikers in Jamie Vardy, Ahmed Musa, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki already at the club, you’d think another goalscorer might be their last necessity, but Sport on Monday believe otherwise.
The Catalan newspaper claim Deportivo La Coruña’s Lucas Perez is ‘on the verge’ of signing for the Premier League champions, and could accept their offer in ‘the coming hours’.
Linked with a move to England for a few months now, the Spaniard and both clubs are in advanced negotiations regarding a transfer, and Sport reckon a transfer is ‘very probably’ this week if Leicester agree to part with €15m.
They also add the player would quadruple his salary were he to make the move.
Unless one of the aforementioned four departs, this seems like a strange transfer to make for Leicester, although an extra striker with European football to be played might not be the worst idea.
