Close to a move to Sunderland last season, Sevilla’s Vicente Iborra dodged a bullet by not joining the Black Cats, enjoying a good campaign with the La Liga side.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder made 44 appearances under Jorge Sampaoli, scoring eight goals and assisting teammates four times along the way, and now a move away looks likelier than ever.

Marca on Monday are reporting that Leicester have made an offer of €14m for the Sevilla captain, with the deal potentially done in the classic ‘coming hours’.

Of course, that timeline is very rarely truthful and is just the Spanish way of saying ‘soon’, as the newspaper explain the offer is one the La Liga side will find unlikely to refuse.

More than doubling their initial expenditure of €6m four years ago, Sevilla know losing Iborra will be a big blow, yet with the player now presented with a big contract at the peak of his career, as well as a new challenge in what is seen as one of the toughest leagues in the world, they won’t really stand in his way.

In similar fashion, Iborra, who has a lot of respect for Sevilla, will not force the issue, but the general consensus here is that a deal is likely.
