Not long after Steven Bergwijn returned to the Netherlands with Ajax, he started being linked with a move back to the Premier League and that’s continuing today with a Leicester City effort being reported by De Telegraaf.
Bergwijn had moved from PSV, where he was a big star, to Tottenham Hotspur in 2020 with big hopes attached to him. The move to Spurs wasn’t a complete disaster but didn’t work out as well as many had hoped.
Tottenham were then given the opportunity to get more than €30m back when Ajax decided to, for Eredivisie standards, blow the bank.
Moving for such a huge fee to Dutch football means it’s near impossible to look value for money and whilst the 26-year-old has done ok, he hasn’t been record transfer levels of good.
That’s encouraged all the claims and a return o English football could be on the cards. De Telegraaf report Leicester City are looking to sign the attacker for around €20m.
The Foxes are ‘ready to make an official offer’, although it’s made crystal clear by De Telegraaf that Leicester City will walk away if Ajax try to push the fee too high.
Reading between the lines, this information appears to be coming from the player’s camp.
